Seattle Kaishin Kai DanZan Ryu Jujitsu
What is Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu?
Dan Za
n Ryu Jujitsu (translated as Sandalwood Mountain Style Jujitsu) is a Hawaiian variation of the traditional Japanese martial art. It incorporates Jujitsu, Hawaiian Lua, American Boxing, Kenpo Karate, and traditional Japanese and Hawaiian healing techniques. Our Founder, Professor Seishiro Henry Okazaki, studied many martial styles before creating his own original Mixed Martial Art, decades before that term even existed.
Inclusion
Ohana means family in the native Hawaiian language. But that is not just the family you are born to, but the family you choose. For us, our Dojo is our Ohana. Your development as a person is as important to us as teaching the techniques. The Founder of our system, Prof Okazaki, emphasized that the practice of Dan Zan Ryu was about the perfection of character.
What Inclusion means to us:
Prof. Okazaki had a policy to never turn away a student who was sincere in their desire to learn. As a result, he routinely taught students that were not considered appropriate at that time, creating some ill will within his own martial arts community. But he felt strongly that every student deserved to benefit from the teachings of Dan Zan Ryu. In his spirit, our dojo welcomes all sincere students to join us on the mat!
Student Requirements
There are no prerequisites for training in Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu, other than an open mind and desire to improve, however we are generally an adult class. Students under 18 may be admitted with Sensei approval. Each student is measured only in the progress they make in comparison to themselves. Dan Zan Ryu is first and foremost about the perfection of Character, and as such is not a competitive environment. We welcome all students in the spirit of Ohana that our founder encouraged.
